Let your skin feel the leather

Leather is a material that causes a lot of discussion about ecology, animal treatment, and the industry. Our leather is a 100% natural and ecological material, that is appreciated all over the world. We want to show you why.

We invite you to read about passion lasting for generations, nurtured crafts, and to peek into a piece of the history of products made by people in the north. Leather used in our products, for example Loop, Loop strap, and Royal Delux comes from Sweden, from the Tärnsjö Garveri tannery. The official date of establishment is 1873, although the family tradition began even earlier.

Industrialization has made many tanneries reach for a cheaper and more effective method of treating leather, based on chemical digestion. Chromium compounds are added to the leather, which means that the leather is preserved after several dozen hours in a barrel. There are few companies left in the world that have not succumbed to the temptation of easier profit and have been using traditional, natural, plant methods for tanning leather.

 With love for naturalness

Our leathers are plant tanned, which holds aesthetic qualities and an unparalleled aroma. If you like the smell of a leather bag or shoes, I assure you that contact with our leather is an even deeper experience. Leather produced in such a way lasts for longer. Aging naturally, and with good care can even be passed on to the younger generation.

 How it's made?

Leather starts with Swedish animals. Well maintained, cared for, so that their skin does not bear the signs of pests, insects, which allows us to take advantage of the acquired material and use it more effectively. The leather is wet salted and packed on to pallets. It comes to tanneries from friendly companies specializing in the processing of raw leather.

First of all, the leather must be limed. This very important stage determines whether the product is to be soft and flexible upholstery leather, or a stiff one. The process lasts two days and takes place in special rotating barrels.

Next, the leather is picked up by a fleshing machine that removes all traces of fiber. At this time, qualified craftsmen cut parts so that only the premium material is left. Each leather is also marked with a unique number, and samples are taken for quality testing purposes.

To make the leather more flexible, it is treated with a special enzyme, and then the tanning process begins, which takes a few more days. Our ancestors in tanneries used tannins made of oak bark and mimosa. Today, we produce tannic acid in the same way, achieving even better results. It is time-consuming, but our goal is the highest quality. Thanks to this our leather is completely free of chromium.

The combination of tannins has been developed in the course of countless experiences of our highly-qualified chemists. Each type has its own unique blend. After finishing tanning, wet and heavy leathers are first pressed to remove water and flatten the surface. Then
the leather is shaved to the desired thickness with the use of a precise machine. To make sure that the desired thickness is suitable, the material is checked manually by employees
.

Liming and tanning removes all natural fat, so it must be substituted. Depending on the type of leather, different methods are used.
Some are treated with fat in a heated mill, others are vanilla-colored. Then it's time for the drying stage. Some types of leather require hot air, others, for example, are stretched on frames so that they remain completely smooth. Upholstery leathers then travel to a mill which rotates them to achieve the desired softness.

Experienced sorters study the leather and crop the formats. It is a delicate process of evaluating the overall aesthetics that determines the leather's value. The material is assigned with a fabric class, which ranges from II to Premium. All leathers must meet our standards.

The finished leather is measured using an optical measuring device. This process is often referred to as "the financial heart of the
tannery" because the volume of  the salable leather is determined
.

„Our vision is to take advantage of our heritage,
craftsmanship in combination with natural raw materials to create the highest quality product
with the least possible impact on the environment.

The tannery is appreciated by many designers and
producers. In addition to our handles, their leather is used to create furniture,
and, for example, saddles or classic briefcases, belts, and bags.

Take care of your leather products

  • Products made of leather should be protected against high temperatures, strong insolation and wetness. (sunlight may cause discoloration)
  • Leather is not resistant to sweat, which can cause discoloration on the product.
  • One should remember about the susceptibility of products from natural leathers to any kind of dirt, greasing, impossible or very difficult to remove.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents for cleaning, but only special agents for preserving leather and fabrics.
  • Hot and dry air can dry leather if it is not properly impregnated.
  • Be especially careful with brown and natural leather, which usually gets dark when in contact with water.
  • When cleaning, use a damp and squeezed-out cloth..
  • After drying the product, it is important that the leather dries well before applying any impregnating pastes or creams.
  • There are many impregnates. If you need help, we recommend going to an equestrian shop or one with exclusive gallantry, in which you will receive detailed help and appropriate materials..
