New year new inspirations

There comes a time when we sit down with a reverie,
sum up the previous year and wonder what the new one will bring.

Leading designers already have ideas for the next seasons in their drawers,
fashion dictators know what they will dictate,
and investors know what they are going to invest in
.

And I invite you to look a little more at what can happen in the interior and decorating world.

What was?

Last year, the most successful were small works such as macrames and woven baskets, which constituted a natural continuation of the previously initiated fashion for exaggerated maxi-carpets and hand-made blankets (hands instead of needles) or huge needles. Adored by some, criticized by others, in fear of returning to the "macramé" owls from the communist period. However, they are slowly leaving. The fascination for methods of weaving is deeply rooted in our culture, and it is good that such traditions do not get lost, but are even discovered anew and refreshed, for example thanks to better materials.

What's up?

Not so long ago, ridiculed, publicly marked as the natural enemies of developers, the defenders of frogs and flowers on uninhabited grounds, they were associated with weirdos and outsiders. It is nice to look at and read that thanks to the increasing awareness of people, taking care of ecology is becoming fashionable. Fashion for being "eco" should be nurtured and developed. I dream about a day when someone buying a plastic bottle will be treated equally as someone who today wants to light a cigarette at a restaurant.

And what does this have to do with interiors? Longing for nature and the desire to experience it also in the city, the need for contact with greenery and clean air resulted in the recently developing fashion for "green walls" and forests in jars. Although this is not an innovative idea, only a possibility discovered by the following generation, a forest in a jar and vertical gardens seem to just start their position on the Polish DIY websites and will become more and more popular.

Imported from Norway and colored with a beautiful green color, cladonia finely arranged in frames or glass is beautiful and unfortunately not cheap. However, our native varieties of this fungus (it's not moss) are covered, just like all mosses, by partial protection. In practice, this means that we can not simply destroy and cut them. Cladonia can be found in Poland throughout the country, most often in sunny places, on dunes, moors, and close to pine forests.

Our curiosity also led us to be active in this field, check it out:

Pantone has chosen the color of the year for the twentieth time, which in 2019 is - living coral. A fresh and joyful color that is associated with carefree, warmth, stimulating our vital energy and metabolism. It should make us happy and remind us of the importance of joy that we can often find in nature. We can find it if we approach it instead of wanting to take over and adapt it to ourselves. We will find it, if we respect, observe, and not change it.

I really like the intention, but the color will probably not have many fans among interior designers. Possibly as an accent, a small coral addition, but not dominating. Being eco means also making choices. Taking advantage of items which are sometimes more expensive, but made of more durable materials. Produced in environmentally stable conditions, without toxic agents, for which the employees get a fair remuneration. Although concepts such as "cradle to cradle" or "sustainable design" have many fans and gain standing ovations, it is still difficult to implement them.

The "zero waste" movements, forest kindergartens, urban composting, and care for water quality are becoming more and more popular. We, as people, have focused our attention on the huge problem of the quality of the air we breathe. Regulations regarding the incineration of waste, the quality of boilers, and the type of burned fuel, the culmination of which we had the opportunity to witness in the form of an important though little productive meeting at the COP24 climate summit in Katowice last month.

In the world of details, we see a growing affection for metals, which with the addition of lacquer will shine long and naturally like our life companions showing the beauty of passing time. We will write more about the patination and finishing types of our handles to dispel any doubts.

 What is coming?

The eternal love for gold and noble accessories, as well as the influence of Japanese kitsungi art have once again introduced the subject of renewing, precious materials, and durability to the interior. Cardboard quick and cheap solutions did not work. We prefer to have less, but reliable things, often multi-functional, visually unique, and fitted in terms of features. The art-deco style also experiences its renaissance. After about a hundred years, gold geometric patterns, limited color palettes, and strong contrasts return as favorites. Elegance, but this time connected to smart technologies, lighter and with the desire to return to nature.

The will to return to nature, referring to the primal needs about which we've forgotten in the turmoil of economic development and taking advantage of technological capabilities constitute the direction which we set for in the world of designers more and more often. What is more and more dynamically developing are the movements of "villigizing cities". After all as the inhabitants of big agglomerations, we do not want to be just passive consumers of what arises outside of our vision but also conscious creators. At the same time, the smart technology is still developing, facilitating the boring prose of life, allowing to remotely control devices, lighting, and heating, and allowing it to be done by people with mobility limitations or away from home. I think that the new year will bring many simple, multifunctional solutions.

Refrigerators that send information about their contents when you are out shopping. Personally, I am waiting for an application that tells me what's in my closet, how it can be combined, and if it's there unused for a year it will automatically send a photo to popular online auctions to give the clothes to someone who is going to use it ;) smart - wardrobe (prototypes are already here!)
